On June 6, 1899, Mr. John A. Kilsdonk, Village President, appointed G. F. Germansen Fire Warden.
On November 11, 1901, the Village ordered the first Fire Engine, a Howe Hand Pumper, pulled either by horse or man.
The purchase price was $900.00. Mr. Howe would send a set of fire department rules and regulations to form a fire department.
All officers of the Village and the Fire Warden would be instructed in the operation of the fire engine.
John De Bruin, Village Clerk, would house the Fire Engine and furnish horses for $12.00 a year.
Mr. Germansen served as Fire Warden until 1902.
On April 1, 1902, John E. Verstegen was appointed Chief of the Fire Department at a salary of $5.00 per year.
On July 8, 1904, the fire engine was housed and horses furnished by C. Langedyke for $18.00 a year.
Mr. Verstegen acted as Fire Chief until 1906.
On April 10, 1906, Peter Vanden Heuvel was appointed Fire Chief and served one year.
The first Village Hall and Fire Station was built in 1906 and 1907. William Wildenberg was appointed Fire Chief at a salary of $10.00 a year.
The Fire Department was officially organized in 1907.
